A small seaside town outside of Tokyo is home to a one-of-a-kind Buddha statue. As I approached the statue, I was awestruck by its size and age. With some trepidation, I entered its belly through a door. I’m not Buddhist, yet I felt a spiritual connection with the statue. I left that place with Buddha’s serene face imprinted on my mind. As I walked around the town dotted with many buddhist temples, I felt like I had traveled back in time. If you are ever in Japan and don’t get a chance to visit Kyoto, don’t despair. Just visit Kamakura to see ancient Japan.
